Weaving Dance

A traditional dance called "Tari Menenun-Sintang", or Weaving Dance in English, while Sintang is a name of region of where the dance came from. The dance is inspired by the traditional weaving process used in crafting traditional clothing. Weaving is the process of interlacing threads or yearns to create fabric or cloth. It involves passing threads over and under each other at right angles to form a woven pattern. The featured image is an example of the cloth. It is called "Tenun Corak Insang", (The Insang Pattern Weave), short way: Kain Insang.

Kain Insang is a traditional weaving technique of the Malay community in Pontianak, known since the time of the Kadriah Sultanate under the rule of Sultan Syarif Abdurrahman Al Qadrie from 1771 to the present day. The Insang pattern was originally worn by nobles in the Kadriah Palace. Kain Insang serves as an indicator of social status for a family or group in community life and inter-kingdom meetings, as well as a measure of skill for young girls in the past.

Kain Insang depicts the civilization of the Pontianak community, which at that time resided along the Kapuas River. It reflects the life of the Pontianak community, which was predominantly associated with the Kapuas River. The philosophy embodied in Kain Insang symbolizes breath, life, and movement. It is an expression of love for nature and the environment, as well as the dynamic spirit of everyday life.
