Name and Location of Mars
Mars is the name of fourth planet from the Sun. It is one of the eight planets in the Solar System where it belongs to the Milky Way Galaxy. Mars is named after the Roman god of war, Mars is also often described as the “Red Planet” due to its reddish appearance. The ancient Greeks called the planet Ares, after their god of war. The Romans did the same thing, associating the planet with their own god of war. Mars is one of the five planets visible with the unaided eye. Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, and Saturn are also visible from Earth with unaided eye.
Natural satellites orbiting Mars
Mars has 2 moons, phobos and deimos. Phobos means fear and Deimos means panic were named after the horses that pulled the chariot of the Greek war god Ares, the counterpart to the Roman war god Mars.
Surface of Mars
Mars has mountains, valleys, and volcanoes. The largest volcano is Olympus Mons. It is associated with the Tharsis Montes. The Tharsis Montes are three large shield volcanoes in the Tharsis region of the planet Mars. There is also a vast canyon system that runs along the martian equator just east of the Tharsis region, it is called Valles Marineris. Tharsis is a name of extensive volcanic province on Mars that contains three of the planet's most massive volcanoes. In other area, Mars has two polar ice caps, north polar cap and south polar cap.
Mars Rover
There are already some robot (rover) have successfully landed on mars to travel and study about this planet. They are sojourner, spirit, opportunity, curiosity and perseverance, they are managed by NASA, and one is managed by China, it is called zhurong. Soviet Union’s Mars 3, was the first successful Mars landing. Mars rover is a vehicle designed to travel on the surface of Mars which is controlled remotely.
